Over the years cities and venues have been going BIG with planning their festive activities.
Whether it’s hot chocolate and marshmallows, spiced cider or mulled wine with a mince pie or a visit to Santa’s Grotto there is no argument it’s a wonderful time of year.
We love a festive day out on the run-up to Christmas but there is so much to choose from. That’s why we have picked our three top favourites things to do in the West Midlands with the hope to get you in the Christmas mood in the coming weeks.
A day out in the City of Birmingham is a must! In fact, an overnight stay is probably wise to fit everything in and there are plenty of hotels such as Park Regis or Hyatt Regency which may have some Christmas break deals.
After a spot of Christmas shopping, there is nothing better than a wander around Birmingham’s German market which is the largest German market held outside Germany!
Those delicious smells of gluhwein (mulled wine) and traditional German delicacies such as bratwurst, schnitzel and strudels are hard to resist.
As well are the market, Birmingham has lots of festive activities such as the ice rink, observation wheel and ice lounge, located at Eastside Green (opposite Millennium Point), the cool Christmas Floating Market along the canal, the Magical Lantern Festival and the Christmas lights trail at Botanical Gardens.
If the larger market is too much, then another favourite is a trip to Hogarths Hotel with their Christmas market and Santa’s Grotto promises to get you in the festive spirit. After a delicious festive Sunday lunch, take a walk down into the stunning gardens where you can find talented local business stalls offering their wares and then a wonderful Santa’s Grotto.
Finally, a delightful festive Afternoon Tea with traditional carols at Coombe Abbey’s stunning Marquee is just the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
There is so much more going on in the area…the list is endless! Whatever you do, we hope you enjoy your festive days out.
